"My wife and I spent one night at Hilltop as part of our 4 day trip to the BI. We stayed in the largest king bedroom . The house itself is impressive, especially the exterior and grounds and it is well located near downtown Hilo. I recommend you ask the owner to turn on the air conditioner at least 2-3 hours before arriving. We arrived to a sweltering bedroom. The only TV was in the downstairs shared common area which has no AC. And as others have noted, parking is a problem in a small driveway...

"This was booked last minute due to a last minute cancellation for another property. Beautiful property especially for the earthy type of individual. It was perfect for my needs however I don’t see people staying here that require more of an upscale type of setting. "First, this property is cool if you know what you are getting into. This is way off the off the grid living. You are staying on a lava field in a shipping container. That is the cool part. It is remote, and just wow for sunset and sunrise. The host, Ron, was nice and communicated well. The location on VRBO makes it appear on Chain of Craters road just near the famed sea arch in Volcanoes National park - a big reason we picked it. However just a bit east of there the road has been closed...

"The property was as advertised, beautiful decor and many amenities plus awesome balconies to sit and watch the sunset. Only issue was the hallway to the unit which had a musty smell but using the service elevator was a way around the smell even though the service elevator had very dirty carpet."
