Enjoy the many pools and hot tubs of Laugardalslaug, the largest geothermal pool facility in Iceland. Three pools with different temperatures take up most of the area of the complex. Relax in the warmest of the three, a shallow, round outdoor pool that features a tall slide. Train in the coolest of the three, the indoor Olympic-sized pool featuring 10 lanes for long swims. The third pool, an Olympic-sized outdoor pool with 8 swimming lanes and moderately warm water is best for more leisurely swims.
For a more relaxing experience, spend time in Laugardalslaug’s four hot tubs. A total of 50 people can fit into the largest tub, and a long soak is a great opportunity to socialize with other guests. Water temperatures in the tubs can reach up to 42 C (108 F). Make sure to experience the saltwater hot tub, filled with seawater and heated to 40 C (104 F).
Let your children play in the whirlpool or ride the covered waterslide, which twists down from a height of 86 metres (280 feet). Inside, the slide alternates between pitch-black zones and areas that are brightly illuminated with flashing lights.
Before entering the water, make sure to wash off with soap per the resort’s instructions. Rent a towel and a swimsuit from the resort if you forgot yours at home. Try a Reykjavík hotdog at the Laugardalslaug café.
After enjoying the geothermal pools, explore the area around Laugardalslaug, which is known as the Laugardalur Valley. A set of trails lets you bike or hike around the area’s grassy parkland. Drop by the indoor ice rink to enjoy Iceland’s namesake in any season. See arctic plants at the Botanical Garden, or discover arctic animals at the Zoo and Family Park.
Reach Laugardalslaug via bus or on foot from the city centre. It lies in the northern part of the city. The pool complex is open late on a daily basis.
