"The staff is great and cleanliness of the facility is pretty good. It’s run by the same management company as Onyado Nono (I stayed at the one in Kyoto). The “meh”. The lite dinner service was mostly izakaya style fare of edamame, fries, and karaage knuckles (tastes good but its cartilage so it can be off putting if you’re not ready for it). We aren’t drinkers so getting free alcohol wasn’t a pull. That was a B . Breakfast was a bit pricey (~$15 pp) and was just okayyy. Their Fukui soba...

"This was my first hotel in Japan. Great value for the quality of the stay. The location has plenty to offer in a walkable distance, including close proximity to the Shinkansen (bullet train). I staid here to be able to visit Daihonzan Eiheiji. The bus to Eiheiji temple is at the transportation center where the Shinkansen and other trains depart. "

"The picture, the huge crab aquarium at the entrance, the crab marking on the room numbers tell it all, this is a Ryokan for eating really good crab. Sakai, is a far place, and it is pretty old and run down, but it would all be worth it for the crab. So you can imagine my surprise when I learned that despite it being crab season my dinner doesn't have any crab. Had they informed me in check-in that my dinner didn't have crab, I would've been slightly upset that I had to pay a few hundred...

"The room was fairly large for Japan, and comfortable, I was on the top floor, non smoking comfort floor. And the breakfast was good. Staff was super. My only complaint is that because some floors were smoking, sometimes the lobby area smelled enough like cigarettes to give me a headache. Location is good for new Shinkansen station. Sidewalks ok."
