"It’s quite unfortunate that Palácio das Especiarias was my first stopover in Portugal, because no other hotel after this has been good enough for me. Apart from its own unique charm, this hotel appears to spare no effort in hosting its guests with great generosity and goodwill. A negative to the place is the lack of lighting in the stairwell and entrance lobby to building; the stairs are darker wood and hard to negotiate with the curve without good lighting.
