Bait and Switch
Prices on the listing are enticing but, beware! I contacted the manager on Jan 22 with a list of questions for clarity since the listing was vague and the prices seemed too good to be true. I liked his responses. The same day a local friend toured the compound and assured us that the spaces she saw were clean. On Jan 23rd, I booked the space for 7 days for 8 guests and received a confirmation on VRBO. On Jan 23rd I sent a “Thank you” greeting and an overview of our plans in the city with no response from the manager. On March 6th, I reached out about an update to our travel plans but got a weird reply 3 days later implying that the rooms I paid for and confirmed were unavailable. When I followed up with detailed messages on Mar 10th and 25th, the manager Michael H said “No worries. Best Re” on Mar 27th. On Mar 27th and twice on Mar 31st I posed more questions to ensure that we are all on the same page with reply from the manager. When my family arrived on the first day April 2nd, the manager claimed that I ignored a quote sent with the correct pricing thus, he demanded additional payment. I showed him proof of my communication with him through the VRBO platform proving that: #1 I never got a pricing quote from VRBO or him #2 I paid since Jan 23rd for 8 guests for 7 days and if this was a mistake based on his pricing, he had 70 days to reach out to me to rectify the issue. #3 The manager doesn’t monitor VRBO inbox to communicate efficiently since he left several of my concerns unresolved when I suspected that there was an issue on Mar 9th and Mar 27th. When the rest of the group arrived on April 4th, I had to demand walls to be scrubbed from wine stains and adequate linen to help make our stay more comfortable. During our stay we witnessed the following: #1 a family staying in the attic with young children who seem to be painting and doing repairs for shelter on the premises. #2 insufficient staff for housekeeping with no functioning washer/dryer on the compound to meet the needs of the rotating guests, hence the limited linens #3 There're 2 managers – Samuel was apologetic and took responsibility for the lack of organization. #4 We witnessed guests who were lied to and demanded refunds. When Michael said No, the guests left and threatened to sue. In a nutshell, we learned that this property has come under new management since late Dec 2022. From late Jan 2023 – April 2nd it all went downhill! Poorly managed and dishonest! RUN!
