Playa del Amor (Lover’s Beach) is perhaps the most photographed and definitely the most romantic beach in Los Cabos. This where the El Arco rock rises out of the ocean and towers overhead. Join a cruise to the beach and get dropped off at the shore where you can spend several hours relaxing and enjoying the secluded, laid-back feel of this serene beach.
There are a few local vendors renting out beach umbrellas and selling simple snacks along the beach, but Playa del Amor is mostly undeveloped, and this is what gives it its secluded atmosphere and natural charm. The lack of traffic makes it an overwhelmingly peaceful place in which to while away the hours. Bring your own picnic and spend the day between the shore and the sea. Don’t forget to pack a snorkel or two—the water here is home to an abundance of marine life, and is safe and sheltered enough for swimming.
Playa del Amor has the best perspective for photographs of El Arco. This ancient limestone rock formation is a natural work of art, created by the rough waters and winds of the Pacific over millions of years.
If you visit the beach between December and March there is a good chance that you will spot whales in the water. The sheltered environment is ideal for baby whales, and many females come here to give birth and raise their young.
You can get to Playa del Amor by water taxi from the Cabo San Lucas Marina. A good way to get to the beach is by joining a glass-bottom boat cruise, allowing you to spot the colourful reefs and abundant marine life on the way. If you’re feeling fit and healthy you can hire a kayak and then explore the area on your own terms. Bear in mind that it can be dangerous to swim on the Pacific Ocean side of the beach where the currents can be strong.
