Malvarrosa Beach is a popular local spot where you can swim in warm water, wander along the oceanfront esplanade and enjoy a friendly game of soccer or volleyball on the sand. The beach is located just north of Valencia’s historic port, a few minutes from the city. You’ll find beautiful old villas and great restaurants along the pristine Mediterranean shoreline.
Take a daytrip and relax on the golden sands of Malvarrosa Beach. Hire a beach chair and stretch out for a few hours, either under the warm Mediterranean sun or beneath the shade of a sun umbrella. Enjoy a swim in the tranquil waters under the safe watch of lifeguards. The lifeguards mark out the beach’s safest areas with flags. Public bathrooms and water fountains for drinking are available at different points along the waterfront.
Those wanting to burn off a little more energy can use the sports equipment that’s set up for casual games of volleyball, basketball, rugby and soccer. Hire Jet Skis and windsurfers or use one of the many exercise stations along the oceanfront.
Enjoy a relaxed walk along the Malvarrosa promenade. Choose a restaurant or buy snacks from food stands, cafés and ice cream shops. Try authentic Valencian paella with a Spanish wine or fresh fruit juice. Playground areas for kids can be found along the promenade. Adults can come back at nightfall to hop between bars, clubs and karaoke lounges.
The famous Valencian writer Vicente Blasco-Ibáñez lived in a villa in Malvarrosa. The villa and surrounding gardens have now been reopened as a museum dedicated to his manuscripts, photographs and personal belongings.
Malvarrosa Beach is located 7 kilometres (4 miles) east of Valencia’s Old Town. Reach the oceanfront in just 35 minutes by bus, tram or metro from the city centre. Free parking is available on the streets that run parallel to the beach. Malvarrosa Beach offers a wheelchair accessible walkway and bathing assistance at the first aid station.
