Southern California may be best known for its stunning beaches and the surfers making the most of the waves. However in Orange County, you'll also find a great attraction that will take you back to the Middle Ages. At Medieval Times, watch knights jousting while fully kitted out in their armour, and tuck into a true royal feast all in the space of a couple of hours.
As you arrive through the castle doors, which open 75 minutes before the start of the show, you can see the knights up close. Check out the Hall of Arms and Torture Museum and admire the Master Falconer showing his skills with an array of birds of prey. Make sure you arrive in good time as the best seats in the arena fill quickly. Seats are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
When the show begins, you’ll be treated to a spectacular tournament where swordsmen fight against one another across the field. You'll also see the King's Court watching over proceedings from on high. Pay close attention to the authentic period clothing that everyone working in the attraction is wearing. Among the crowds you'll spot visitors wearing crowns, holding banners, and wielding play weapons.
Food is brought by servants to your table, however, cutlery isn’t available. You'll be expected to eat with your hands just like true medieval folk. The menu also caters for vegetarians and other special dietary requirements.
Before you leave, drop into the gift shop, where you will find plenty of souvenirs to take away with you.
The company behind Medieval Times runs eight similar resorts across the United States, so you can be sure this a truly authentic dining and entertainment experience. Large numbers of visitors choose to visit, so it's best to book in advance of your visit. The Orange County castle is situated on Beach Boulevard in Buena Park and there is plenty of available parking.
