Enjoy delectable cuisine, vibrant street art and friendly locals in this gay district, where drag shows and techno DJs bring the night to life.

The Village, colloquially known as the "Gay Village", is an exciting district that embodies the flair of LGBT. No matter what your sexual orientation, this suburb offers a range of day-brightening activities, from enjoying refreshments in a high density area of cafés, restaurants and clubs to getting a photo next to the metro stop's rainbow pillars.

Access the Village along its main thoroughfare, St. Catherine Street. From June through September, this street is pedestrian only. Notice skilful street art decorating the facades as you walk. In summer, restaurant terraces fill up with fashionably dressed aficionados enjoying the sun.

Though hundreds of restaurants line the Village streets, two in particular are notable for their unique service. Try the famed martini of Saloon, an affordable two-story bistro with an in-house DJ. The staff here claim they have served over half a million. Dine amongst fashion royalty in the classy, but significantly pricier, NÜVÜ Bistro. Here, delectable nouveau-French cuisine is served in a designer interior.

As the sun sets falls, head to one of many flashy nightlife options. Watch strutting drag queens at Mado's. The queen of queens, Mado herself, performs on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Sample a range of experimental and sweetened cocktails at a gay bar. Enjoy the music and energy of the areas dance clubs, which stay open into the early hours of the morning. Famous techno DJs play at Stereo, while Le Drugstore is a multi-storied club with an industrial vibe.

If you are up for a party, visit the Village during one of its week long celebrations. Watch the fabulous parade of Divers/Cité, which is held annually between July and August. Mascara, one of the world's largest drag shows, also takes place during this week.  Lose yourself in the music at Black and Blue, a week of big techno parties during Canadian Thanksgiving. Book tickets to shows at various venues in advance, as these world-renowned performances sell out fast.
