Immerse yourself in history and culture at the summit of this beautiful hill, which is a place of great religious importance.

Mount Zion is located directly outside the walls of Jerusalem’s Old City and can be accessed via the Zion Gate. Its importance in the history of Christianity, Islam and Judaism is demonstrated through the many attractions that are located on top of the hill. Visit sites such as the Last Supper Room, King David’s Tomb, the Dormition Abbey and the grave of Oskar Schindler.

The Last Supper Room, also known as the Cenacle, is located directly above King David’s Tomb. Enter it directly from the main street on Mount Zion. Said to be the location of the Last Supper, the room is a poignant place to visit.

King David’s Tomb gets its name from the fact that some believe an important biblical figure, King David of Israel, was buried here. Access the tomb via a synagogue. There are separate areas for men and women to view the tomb and pray.

Another important religious site to visit is the Dormition Abbey, the place where the Virgin Mary may have died. This large but simple church is located right beside the site of King David’s Tomb, making it an essential stop for visitors to Mount Zion. Venture into the crypt below the church to see an interesting sculpture of the Virgin Mary sleeping.

The grave of Oskar Schindler is a popular attraction for fans of the film Schindler’s List. They come to the memorial to pay their respects to the man who saved the lives of over 1,000 Jewish people during World War II. Find the grave in the Catholic cemetery near St. Pierre Gallicantu Church. The grave is easy to spot due to the stones placed around it.

Reach Mount Zion by car from the road that encircles the Old City, but keep in mind that its two parking lots can get very full. You can also walk here. The simplest route involves exiting the Old City through the Zion Gate. For the best views of the city below, take the more challenging walking route that leads past Montefiore’s Windmill. Remember to wear modest clothing so you can enter the religious monuments on the mount.
