Earn a knighthood in this museum of armor and torture and enjoy a stunning panorama of the Goslar rooftops from its terrace.

Standing within a historic battery tower, the Museum im Zwinger contains a collection of intriguing medieval weapons and torture tools. The structure is part of the Thomas Wall and dates back to 1517. Snap photos of the picturesque environs of the park through the museum windows on the top floor of the tower.

Admire the preserved state of the cylindrical tower, which is 66 feet (20 meters) tall and has a wall thickness of 21 feet (6.5 meters). Enter the building and climb to the top floor for the fascinating museum. Browse the range of weapons and armor from medieval times on display. You can also find Japanese helmets, lances and javelins, Roman artillery and medieval swords in this complex.

Fans of the horror genre will love the torture implements on show, while kids and adults alike can receive a knighthood and certificate from the museum. Let your children try on the chain shirt, as they learn the fun and scary parts of history. Reach the rooftop for a spectacular vista of the light red rooftops of Goslar’s historic center.

Enjoy a meal in the restaurant on the ground floor of the battery tower. This privately owned structure also contains three apartments on the middle floor. Note that this 16th-century tower was constructed to defend the town from enemy fire from the adjacent Rammelsberg hill.

There is a fee to enter the tower with discounts for kids. Toddlers can enter for free. The site opens from late morning until afternoon, Tuesday through Sunday.

The Museum im Zwinger is in a park a little south of the historic center of Goslar. Get a bus to the stop on the southeastern side of the park and walk for a few minutes to arrive at the museum. Nearby attractions include the Zinnfiguren Museum, the Stollenlinde and the Kegelworthturm.
