Explore the exhibition rooms of this free downtown art museum to familiarize yourself with prominent Brazilian artists.

Discover the work of some of Brazil’s leading artists with a visit to the Museum of Contemporary Art (Museu de Arte Contemporânea do Paraná). This cultural outpost in the center of the city hosts a collection of 1,500 sculptures, paintings, prints, drawings and other pieces, including works by artists from the southern state of Paraná.

The museum opened in 1971 and is housed inside an old government building with a distinctive purple façade. Inside, there are rotating temporary exhibitions featuring work from the museum’s collections by artists such as Marcelo Grassmann, Luciano Mariussi and Tomás Abal.

Start your visit on the ground floor in the Theodoro De Bona room, where you'll find temporary exhibitions by established contemporary artists. Here, you might also see the work of up-and-coming contemporary artists. The other rooms on the ground floor host individual and collective exhibitions.

Wander through the rooms on the upper floor to see major retrospectives as well as individual and themed exhibitions. Guided tours of the museum are available if booked in advance, but they are not held in English.

Being a small museum, one hour is enough time to see everything on display, unless you prefer to linger longer by specific pieces.

Museu de Arte Contemporânea do Paraná is open every day except Mondays and admission is free. The building is situated in downtown Curitiba and is easy to reach by bus. There are no on-site parking facilities. To keep up to date with what will be on show during your stay in the city, visit the gallery’s official website.
