Ride a buggy across this remarkable bridge with views of the undulating sand dunes, palm trees and lagoons on surrounding beaches.

The Newton Navarro Bridge is a monumental construction that soars across the picturesque Potengi River. A spectacular work of engineering, the structure is among the largest cable bridges in Brazil. Drive across it on your way to Natal from the Natal International Airport and appreciate its panoramic vista of the ocean and the surrounding beaches.

Capture photos of this iconic bridge, which is recognizable by the large twin pillars at its core. The structure is 5,840 feet (1,780 meters) long and 72 feet (22 meters) wide. Gaze up at the bridge at night, when it is illuminated with bright streetlights against the dark sky.

Travel on foot or by bike in the assigned lanes on either side. Stop in the middle and take photos of the magnificent panorama. Cross the bridge to reach Redinha Beach, which has a long pier and offers excellent views of the looming bridge.

As you continue north, encounter the glorious sand dunes of Genipabu Beach. Take part in the sport of esquibunda, which involves body boarding down steep sandy slopes. Arabian camels are available for rides. Go on a buggy ride around the lagoons and palm trees of this picturesque stretch of white sand. Drivers are certified by the local tourist board. Let them know your preference for a thrilling ride or a calm journey.

Learn how the bridge, which opened at the end of 2007 after more than 3 years of construction, takes its name from a multi-talented local artist. It is also known as the Bridge of Everybody and the Redinha Bridge in reference to the adjacent beach.

The Newton Navarro Bridge joins the northern Santos Reis part of Natal to the sandy region of Extremoz. It crosses the wide berth of the Potengi River just before the water flows into the ocean on the eastern coast of Brazil. Cross the bridge to visit the Natal Aquarium and stay at one of the many posadas on the northern side of the river.
