Playa Dorada’s glorious white sands, clean waters and colourful reefs make this beach one of the most well-known tourist destinations on the island. The beach has different sections, with certain parts reserved for the patrons of nearby beachfront resorts, but other parts remain open to the general public. Sun yourself on the fine sands, go snorkeling off the shore and cool off by wading into the sea.
With its pristine sands and soothing water, this beach is an ideal place to recharge. If you stay at one of the oceanfront resorts, avail of the sun loungers and umbrellas provided. Otherwise, bring a towel and stake out a spot on the sand away from the reserved sections. This beach is mostly frequented by families and couples staying at the luxury resorts that border it and the atmosphere is quiet and easy-going.
Be sure to go for a swim while here. The gentle slope of the beach means the depth increases very gradually, making the waters safe for children. Rent flippers and snorkels to check out the coral beds, which can be found just off the shore. Schools of vivid tropical fish duck and dive around the pretty coral.
For something more fast-paced, ask at the beach hut about what watersports you can participate in. Go kayaking or sailing or try out windsurfing or parasailing. After an exhilarating activity, reward your bravery with a drink back at one of the beachside bars at the far ends of the beach. Socialize with other bar patrons and linger to watch the sun set over the ocean.
