The Predigerkirche is an impressive 13th-century church comprising a large hall without a tower. It is known for its well-preserved vaulted ceiling above its vast single nave. Explore the ecclesiastical carved sculptures and other fascinating artifacts on display in the Thuringian Museum.

Delve into the historic Crypt of the Dominicans, which dates back to 1243, to find the great range of statues and tools. See the eerie tombstones and sculptures alongside a range of religious relics and works of art.

Examine the array of artworks found and excavated from sites across the region of Thuringia. Among the highlights of the museum is the 13th-century sculpture by Henry Raspe. Get an insight into the realm of religious medieval Germany.

Learn about the history of the church via its many exhibits. It was constructed as part of a Dominican monastery to commemorate St. Elizabeth. Inspect the remains of the initial cloister from the monastery within the church. The church was also home to a 16th-century Latin school among other institutions over the centuries.

Relax on one of the benches and tables that flank the church’s exterior. Admire the structure’s large façade, with its arched windows. The long side of the church is adorned with a row of large arched portals.

The museum is on the eastern flank of a scenic patch of woodland, where you’ll find the elegant Cross Church. Stroll through the picturesque trails and lay down a blanket for a picnic in this serene area.

Note that the church opens Wednesday through Sunday from morning until afternoon.

The Predigerkirche is in the center of the old town district in Eisenach. Walk west from the Eisenach Railway Station for a little over 10 minutes to reach the church and museum. Ensure you visit nearby sights, including the Lutherhaus, the Stadtpark and the Rathaus (Town Hall).
