Wave Watchers Retreat is located in Punakaiki Village on a private beachfront site in the Paparoa National Park.
It is a self-catering 2 bedroom/3 bathroom luxury beach cottage for one or two couples.
The cottage is surrounded by flowering gardens and outside decking with stunning coastal views.
The full kitchen has all the major appliances you’ll need for quick breakfasts or a special sit-down meal: oven, range, dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator.
You’ll find plates, glasses, silverware, and more for setting the Rimu wood dining table. You’ll be able to do as much or as little in the kitchen as you’d like while on vacation. And if you want to have a cookout, there is a gas BBQ and outside table and chairs – just grab some steaks and a glass of wine and enjoy the ocean and sunset views!
A washer and dryer in the small laundry room eliminates worry about packing enough clean clothes. Laundry soap is provided.

A complimentary bottle of wine will be waiting for you when you arrive at the cottage. Complimentary wi-fi and cable Skytv are only a few of the amenities in this luxury accommodation. You will find lots of extras in the kitchen and bathrooms:

We loved this property. It was so cosy and comfortable with ocean views which can be seen from the beds! The kitchen is well kitted out so easy to cook a meal. A great place to stay in any season.

Charming wee cottage
This is a cute wee cottage in an amazing location. It has been restored with love and care and the garden is charming. We were disappointed with the state of the lounge suite - dirty and smelly, the owner says he intends to clean or replace it. We would also like to warn fellow Cantabrians who experienced the earthquakes that the cottage shakes sharply at high tide when the waves crash against the sea wall, we found this quite disturbing.

Wonderful long weekend
Wave watchers is a gorgeous bach which allows you to take in all that stunning punakaiki has to offer. Amazing views of the wild sea viewable from all rooms in the bach & the wild native bush & cliffs from the deck. A beautiful native garden to wander. The ambience of the gas fire is lovely to enjoy. Looking forward to our next stay!

Wonderful Beachfront Property
Fantastic property right on the beach. Private garden/grounds and excellently appointed with everything you might need. Only 5 mins walk to Punakaiki Rocks and even closer to lovely little pub/restaurant. This was the stand-out property from our 4 week north/south island tour and I would 100% recommend. I can't imagine why anyone would stay in Greymouth when this jewel of a place is less than an hour's drive along a magnificent coastline. Do however collect groceries etc. in Greymouth before you set off to the house.

Almost Perfect!
This house was as close to ideal as possible. Its location was perfect, almost storybook, i.e. a house by the sea. But beyond the location, the gardens were lovely, the house is well maintained and fully functional. The only complaint I could make is that the mosquitoes and midgies are a problem at night, such that the ladies in our group were covered with bug bites. Screens over the windows and doors would be a welcome addition. However, beyond that, the house was comfortable, wifi was excellent, everything worked, including the gas grill, there was plenty of water pressure and hot water and the w/d worked fine. The house is within easy walking distance to the pancake rocks, blow holes and caverns and a short drive to the Truman Track. Star gazing at night is phenomenal. All in all, this is an outstanding place to stay. I wish we had planned for 4 nights instead of 2, but 2 were magnificent.

Location, location, location
Authentic little cottage right on the beach (can’t get closer than that) where you can enjoy the waves all day long. Washing machine, dryer, dishwasher are all nice amenities to have to make a holiday more of a holiday. We had gorgeous weather and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
