With a personality of its own, this beach adds a little extra. Watch fishermen use the beach as their port. You can even fish with them.

Punta Lobos Beach is 2 miles (3 kilometers) south of Todos Santos, Mexico, and the short journey is worth the trip. The sandy beach is long and wide. Fishermen have a daily routine of leaving and returning to the beach in their boats, known as pangas. Buy fish directly from fishermen or dine on fresh seafood at one of the town’s restaurants, knowing there’s a good possibility that it was caught off Punta Lobos.

Stroll along this magnificent beach and notice the shrine to the Virgin Mary located next to a freshwater lagoon. The shrine is traditionally used by fishermen who ask for bountiful catches and protection for their pangas. Near a hotel at the southern end of the beach is a deserted cannery.

Look for a black-and-white lighthouse that is incorporated into a beach club and spa complex at the northern end. This daytime retreat has beautiful views of the beach and ocean creating a magical setting. Dine, luxuriate in spa treatments or enjoy the infinity pool at this complex. At certain times of the year you may see whales and manta rays just off the coast. This facility is closed Mondays and reservations are required for some services.

Bring a surfboard to the beach to take advantage of the powerful waves however, pay attention to warnings of riptides. As a general rule, if local residents aren’t in the water, you shouldn’t be either. However, with the partial protection of a rocky bluff of land, you might find this beach has slightly calmer waters than others along the coast.

Find Punta Lobos Beach about 3 miles (5 kilometers) from Todos Santos. Look for a sign along the highway that indicates the beach road, with several paths to the sand. Stay for a memorable sunset, but remember that the beach gate closes at night and camping is not allowed.
