Enjoy fine dining and spectacular views from the top of the Dallas Reunion Tower

Stretching majestically over the city skyline, the 171-metre-high Reunion Tower is easily one of the most recognisable landmarks in Dallas. Constructed in 1978 as part of the redevelopment of the Reunion District of downtown Dallas and named after a socialist utopian community based in west Dallas in 1855, Reunion Tower offers spectacular views of the city.

One of the most popular tourist attractions in Dallas, this iconic landmark draws visitors from all over the world. Having gained status as the unofficial symbol of Dallas, the Reunion Tower has even gone green in the past for Saint Patrick's day.

If the thoughts of scaling the dizzying heights of the tower in a glass-bottomed elevator make you nervous, don’t worry you can always take the stairs. Whatever way you reach the top, you won’t be disappointed the tower’s panoramic view takes in the Texas School Book Depository and the "Grassy Knoll" at Dealey Plaza to the north, the Trinity River sits to the west, the behemoth that is the Dallas Convention Centre to the east, and the famous Gilley’s to the south.

As stunning as it is during the day, it is at night that the tower’s geodesic dome really comes to life as 259 custom LED light fixtures cast a dazzling array of patterns and colours across the city. The best of all is that anyone can enjoy this spectacle for free!

Unfortunately, the Observation Deck level is currently under renovation but is due to re-open sometime in late 2013. Happily, visitors can still enjoy this marvellous view of the city owned by celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck, the Asian-influenced restaurant Five Sixty sits near the top of the tower. This classy restaurant rotates 360° every 55 minutes, creating a totally unique dining experience. If you fancy something a bit more casual, Five Sixty also has two bars with floor to ceiling windows where patrons can relax and enjoy the views of the city from this staggering vantage point. If you're feeling really brave, take a step outside, but watch out for strong gusts!
