San Simeon Pier

Drop a fishing line to hook walleye perch and rubberlip or spend some time enjoying the views from this long timber pier that juts out from a protected cove.

San Simeon Pier extends into the ocean waters from a sheltered beach in San Simeon Bay. Stroll along the 850-foot (259-meter) pier and listen to the sound of the waves crashing below the boardwalk as you look out to the horizon. Whether you’re with family, friends or enjoying some time to yourself, San Simeon Pier is an idyllic spot to sit and relax. Cast a fishing line and hook fish year-round or spend some time exploring the surrounding beach.

Stroll along the William R. Hearst Memorial State Beach and take in views of the 22-foot (6.7-meter) tall pier. Make your way onto the timber deck and enjoy a breezy stroll over the gentle waves. Set up your fishing rod and wait for the fish to start biting. You might pull in barred surfperch, rubberlip, rainbow and walleye perch. You can take your catch back to the fish cleaning stations on the beach and grill a fresh meal at the barbecue grill stands. The tables on the foreshore are perfect for enjoying a picnic with gorgeous ocean views.

Spend some time exploring the protected beach. Go beachcombing with the kids or explore the eucalyptus forest behind the foreshore. Kayaking and surfing are also popular activities at this beach. Rent a kayak or a bodyboard from the beachside concession in the summer months and paddle along a stretch of the pretty coastline.

San Simeon Pier is easy to access via the turnoff that connects the town of San Simeon to the Cabrillo Highway. The foreshore park has public restrooms, picnic facilities and an on-site parking lot. Permits are not required to fish off the pier however, you will require a license to go surf fishing or creek fishing in the area. Rent a fishing rod and pick up angling supplies from the nearby bait and tackle shop. The pier is free to visit at any time and a pleasant place to visit on a sunny day.
