Cool off and splash around at the Sea Point Pavilion, an open-air swimming complex that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. The year-round attraction is located in the seaside suburb of Sea Point, next to a long promenade and several beaches.
Go for a swim in the outdoor swimming pools, which are filled with chlorinated and filtered seawater. There is an Olympic-sized pool, a diving pool, a fun pool and a children’s pool. The pools are not heated and will therefore be a little cooler in the winter months. As you move through the water, pause to enjoy the views of the ocean.
Get some exercise on the pavilion’s outdoor gym equipment. Between bouts of exercising and swimming, relax on the grassy areas with a picnic. Bring food and non-alcoholic beverages with you.
While you are in the Sea Point area, plan to check out its other attractions. Stroll along the seafront promenade and join the early morning or early evening joggers. Play a game of soccer on the grassy areas. Cycling and skateboarding are other popular activities on the promenade, and there are playgrounds for children. Stop for light refreshments at a sidewalk café.
Paddle in the cool waters and relax on Sea Point's beaches, including Milton Beach and Rocklands, a popular surfing spot. Come back to the area at night for its restaurants and nightclubs.
To reach Sea Point, take a bus or taxi from Cape Town’s downtown area. If you drive, the journey takes about 10 to 15 minutes and the pavilion has free parking.
Sea Point Pavilion operates daily with earlier opening and later closing hours in the summer. Admission charges apply, with a big reduction on the entry price for children. Swim for free if you are a senior citizen. The swimming pool facilities include changing rooms, showers and lockers.
