Make your way through this diverse and developed state for its mysterious caves, theme parks, shopping malls and exciting races.

With shopping malls, exotic jungle terrain and pristine beaches, Selangor is among the most modern and eclectic of Malaysia’s states. Its towns and cities contain ancient religious relics providing information on the region’s fascinating history, while the countryside offers outdoor activities. See the many attractions in Malaysia’s capital of Kuala Lumpur for a glimpse into the country’s culture.

The capital has fun activities for the entire family. Bring kids to the theme parks of KidZania and Sunway Lagoon. In the northeastern outskirts is the enormous National Zoo of Malaysia, which contains more than 450 animal species. See the spectacular multicolored light displays in the I-City urban development.

Spend the afternoon at the Sepang International Circuit to watch the Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix. Tour the arena that previously hosted Formula 1 races and take the kids on the go-kart course.

In the northern part of the city are the iconic Batu Caves consisting of a limestone outcropping with several large caves guarded by a statue of the Hindu god of war. Watch for monkeys as you ascend the 272 steps to reach the peak and capture photos of the panoramic city view.

Travel west to the coast, where you will find Kuala Selangor Fireflies. Marvel at the spectacular light displays put on by these tiny insects. Visit the pristine, sandy Gold Coast beaches, which are best enjoyed from June to July. The state is warm year-round due to its tropical climate.

Browse the luxury shops in the Centro Mall and the Bukit Raja Shopping Centre in Klang as well as other stores throughout the capital.

The state of Selangor is on the western coast of mainland Malaysia. Fly to Kuala Lumpur International Airport and get around by trains and buses. Since the region is well connected to the rest of the country, it is often used as a base for further travels.

Selangor is stylish and sophisticated, with endless activities and a picturesque topography.
