Amakhala Safari
Well organised camp with very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff. Food was great. The tents are comfortable and ours had a great view of the reserve. The main lodge is really comfortable and cosy with an outdoor deck for warm weather and an open fire inside for colder weather. Food, drink plus two game drives a day included. Very good value for money and I would definitely stay here again.

Lovely small game lodge
Woodbury tented camp is a small lodge. The tents, which are very nice, make it very different to staying in a hotel room. The food served was simple but well prepared and very nice. You get get two game drives a day and we managed to see lions, elephants, white rhino, giraffes and may other species. Our guide was very knowledgeable and helped to make the overall experience very enjoyable

Overall, a unique experience with great views from the central deck area. Food was good and tasty, but not fine dining. The tent was as expected, but the view from our tent was slightly disappointing comprising a wire fence and scrub. Also our tent was on a higher elevation than most others which meant it was easily disturbed by the high winds. I do realise the weather is not something that the property can control!

We very much lked the Game Drives. Everything about them was totally Ace. Our guide knew where to look for the animals and he was constantly listening to reports from other guides (there were about 6 guided tours going on at the time) which made the whole experience so special. We spotted a cheetah at one point, and our guide reported it so everyone else could experience it. We saw fantastic hers of Elephants, Lions, Rhino, hippos Giraffe, loads of zebra and Antelope and many other animals and birds. Our tent was very luxurious, complete with a big en-suite bathroom with loads of hot water, a super king bed complete with Electric Blankets (we instantly turned them off), tea and coffee and a balcony overlooking the game reserve. Only things that we could moan at were the early start (0530) and the food, which although good was not exceptional. We would go back.

We choose this tent experience over a lodge and it was an excellent choice. To be in the environment/wild but have first class facilities was amazing. Nothing was to much trouble for the staff, the terrace for eating breakfast, lunch with fantastic views was a pleasure. Communal living but with privacy allows you to share your day. The staff from reception to guides were outstanding, friendly polite and very knowledgable.

Fantastic experience
This is tented accommodation and we stayed in tent 4 which was on -suite and very comfortable and they supply a turn down service where they put on the electric blanket and place chocolates on your pillow- not bad for a tent! The whole experience was fantastic from the moment we arrived until we had to leave and the wildlife is relevant to the parks size and we saw 4 of the big 5 and only didn't see lions as it had been raining which they don't like, It is fully all inclusive and the food and drink is very good you even have a sun downer out on safari. There is electricity in all the tents and Wi-Fi in the main area of the camp . We would highly recommend this glamping experience

Fabulous tented camp - but not loads of game
The tented camp was exactly as I imagined and ere very comfortable. It was originally set up as a double but they quickly hanged to a twin room. The beds were very comfortable and they had switched on electric blankets which was great to get into but not needed once in. Slept very well and shower and toilet was good. The verandah was great to sit outside on and each of the tents had plenty of privacy.. We only stayed one night and when we got back from the evening safari they had a great boma and drinks ready in return.. the guides were excellent and we saw 3 lions having a feastwhich was great. The evening meal was adequate but not fabulous. The breakfast was pretty poor as barely warm. This isn’t Kenya so if you have been there and seen fabulous plains of game and all the abundance of animals you may be disappointed. All in all good value in comparison to other game lodges in The Eastern Cape.

Great experience from beginning to end
The whole stay was so much better than we expected. Real comfort in the tent with bed turn down and chocolate, lights on and tent closed. Next morning after the game drive tent was open and ready for us the game drives and Lenny our guide were wonderful. Lenny drove the long drive to ensure we saw the leopard family playing. Awesome and more. Thanks to all the crew but particularly Lenny. Dinner with Josh, I think that's his name, gave a great insight to the history of the Amakala.

We couldn't have enjoyed our stay more. Two game drives a day, very good food and drinks. Tents are very private and have views of the reserve.

Brilliant family safari experience
This turned out to be an excellent family holiday. We originally chose the tented camp option as it was the cheapest way for the four of us to stay on one of the private game reserves (Woodbury Tented Camp is located in the Amakhala game reserve), however I would now recommend this option over a regular lodge as it offered the perfect balance of adventure and comfort (electric blankets on the beds!). The staff were all very friendly and our guide, Melumzi, did an excellent job of tracking down the animals big and small: lion (including cubs), elephant, white rhino, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, kudu, waterbuck, etc. He was great with the children and shared a number of amusing stories to help them remember the different types of antelope. Our two night stay included four game drives (4pm and 6am each day - 3 hours each) and full board - the Expedia listing wasn't so clear about this. There was one small hiccup initially because Expedia allowed us to book all four of us into one tent, which isn't allowed, however the Woodbury manager contacted us and very kindly offered us the use of a second tent at no extra cost. If you are planning to have more than two in a tent it would be best to contact Woodbury directly. Likewise, if you are travelling with children under 6 you should check if this can be accommodated: in our case they were very happy to allow our 5 year old on the game drives, but this is not the case in all private reserves.

Man weiss halt nie, was man zu sehen bekommt.
