Enjoy a true Cuban beach experience while exploring the glorious coastal region of Playas del Este. This group of tourist-friendly resorts decorates the shore of the Habana del Este neighborhood. Relax in the sun on the wild palm-fringed beaches of Playas del Este, swim in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico and participate in watersports. Find all-inclusive hotels, budget accommodations and waterfront bars and restaurants.

One of the closest beaches to the city is Bacuranao, a crescent-shaped bay with calm water and soft sand offering a beautiful tropical setting. A short drive east from there is Tarará, a village popular among long-term international vacationers. Tarará Beach is a great place to organize kitesurfing and scuba-diving excursions.

Travel farther east to El Mégano, which has a wide range of hotels, guesthouses and restaurants. Make your beach time more comfortable by renting sun chairs and umbrellas. Santa Mariá del Mar features a postcard-perfect beach and the largest concentration of tourist amenities. Spot multicolored fish in the transparent water and find shade from the sun beneath a thatched palapa umbrella. Have fun cruising the sea via a rented kayak or paddleboat.

Continue to Boca Ciega and Mi Cayito, which are both favorite hangouts of the LGBT crowd. Mingle with local families at Guanabo, the most easterly and rustic of the beaches. It offers an abundance of affordable private and shared accommodations options.

Located in Habana del Este, Playas del Este is about a 30-minute drive from Havana’s city center. A convenient way to get here is by taxi. Alternatively, catch the bus heading east that departs from Parque Central in Old Havana. The beautiful sand beaches stretch about 9 miles (15 kilometers) along the coast, so you’re sure to find a spot to enjoy bright sun and white sand without having to fight crowds.

The beaches of Playas del Este are busiest between July and August. Come during Cuba’s mild winter months to discover fewer tourists and an almost deserted coastline.
