Bob Marley rose from humble beginnings in a shanty in Trench Town, Kingston, to global fame through the righteous political lyrics and wonderful tones of his music. This excellent museum is found in the artist's former home, and offers a deeper understanding of Marley’s life and work.The redemptive power of music, and its capacity to move people’s hearts and minds, was at the core of Bob Marley’s life. He told the stories of slavery and oppression on his home island, and connected them with the struggles of people all over the world for a better life. His Rastafarianism, the Ethiopian flag and emblematic dreadlocks remain strongly associated with the musician to this day.The Bob Marley Museum is found on Hope Road – a very fitting location. Follow a guided tour around the house he lived in, which also houses his recording studio.Trace the growth and explosion of Marley’s career during the 1970s he has gone on to sell a massive 75 million albums since then. Born in 1945, he died at the age of just 36 from cancer in his toe, and was later added to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The legendary Exodus album has been acknowledged by critics as one of the finest of the entire 20th century.Take in Marley’s bedroom, which has been perfectly preserved with his guitar and single bed, along with Rastafarian cloaks and his favourite denim shirt.Read newspaper articles, admire photos and awards, and follow the course of his career with The Wailers and the The Upsetters. You can also try Rastafarian ital food in the Legend Café when you feel you need a break.The Bob Marley Museum is a 20-minute drive from Kingston. You can take a taxi or rent a car to get here, and there is plenty of parking. The museum is closed on Sundays.
