Quaint, cozy Blackbird Cottage on Seneca Lake with private lakefront

Welcome to Blackbird Cottage! On a quiet dead-end street, Blackbird Cottage is a perfect cottage for a couple or a group of up to four looking to relax on Seneca Lake.

The main cottage offers 2 bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the second bedroom with a Double bed.  The bathroom has heated floors and a walk in shower.  You can cook in the fully outfitted kitchen, enjoy a meal at the dining table or sit in the living room and take in the lake view through the large window overlooking the patio and the lake.

At beach level, our lakeside cabana, for relaxing or "working from home" by the lake,  is surrounded by a deck and outdoor chairs, just a few steps from your own lakefront, and is outfitted with mini-fridge and comfy furniture giving you a wonderful place to relax at the end of a day on the lake.  The cabana can be heated in the winter months and has a wall unit AC for the hotter months.  There is a small fire pit on the lake front as well for evening fires. Between the two buildings is a patio with an outdoor dining set, grill and of course, the beautiful lake view. It doesn't get better than than this!

The cottage ceilings are fairly low due to the fact it was originally built in the 1950's. We are also on a quiet dead-end street with close neighbors along the lake who also enjoy the relaxing nature of the area.

Whether visiting the area for our wonderful wineries, getaway, romantic weekend, or fishing our world-famous lake trout, you will love Blackbird Cottage on Seneca Lake!

There is a canoe for getting out onto the lake, which is located under the lower deck. Please use at your own risk and use responsibly. Great for fishing and sunsets!

The Good the Bad and the Ugly
The Good: The inside of the cottage was clean. The bathroom was roomy. The beds and furniture were comfortable. We loved the Adirondack rocking bench at the end of the dock. We had coffee there every morning. Very peaceful. The canoe was also nice to have. There was very little boat traffic in the area, so it was very quiet. Some suggestions: Towel racks in the bathroom, a salad bowl, beach towels, Plastic cups (The rules stated that no glass containers are allowed near the water, but there are no plastic cups.) Clean flotation tube and mattress. (The flotation tube and mattress were stored with the canoe and were covered in dirt and mold.) A cork screw that works. The Bad: We tried to go for a swim, however the grass was so thick in the 3 feet of water that one could not swim. My arms would literally become entangled in the weeds, whick extended from the bottom of the lake to the water's surface. The water is so shallow that I had to wade out to about 100 feet from shore before I was able to swim freely. The canoe allowed us to paddle out to the local public beach. During our paddle we noted that no other cottage had a significant weed problem. The manager said there was nothing that one could do about it and that it was a microclimate issue. However, a neighbor said that the grass simply needs to be physically romoved. The tables and chairs by the bungalo need cleaning, and the picnic table needs leveling. Bees are entering a hive via a hole on the side of house.

Long weekend getaway
We stayed Thursday thru Monday. We did some hiking to see some local waterfalls along the Keuka Outlet trail. As non wine drinkers we visited some cool breweries around Seneca and Penn Yan. We had dinner at Beef and Brew and Parker’s Grille which were both great. We spent Saturday at The Windmill Farm and Craft market. It was great watching the sunrise over Seneca Lake sitting in the dock

Girls trip, peaceful, had everything we needed.
We had a great time. The house is great for a small getaway and has everything you need. This was my second stay on the property. The lake itself was pretty disappointing this time as it was filled with grass and there were a TON (at least five, two of which were massive) water snakes living near the dock/shore line that made themselves known. Otherwise the property is clean, well maintained, and charming.

This house was clean, cute, comfortable, and a great location. We spent our time there during the week. The lake was very quiet and peaceful. One recommendation would be to add two more chairs down by the dock, near the fire pit.

Serene setting for relaxation
Perfect location on Seneca lake. The little cottage provided the perfect home-base for our wine & beer tasting trip. The dock was our favorite place to have our morning coffee, evening wine and then cozy up with a fire on the pebble beach. Can’t wait to make our next trip up and would definitely stay here again

Underwhelming...
I stayed at the cottage over Labor Day weekend for four nights with my sister to do some wine tasting in the Finger Lakes. I have done this a number of times and stayed at a lot of properties. Originally, another person was supposed to join us - the cottage boasts sleeping up to 4 people. Unless they are in sleeping bags on the floor, I'm not quite sure where they would go! I wanted to love this place from the photos, but it fell short and I wouldn't stay again. Pros: The cottage is in a great location with wonderful views. It is nicely decorated and some areas have been updated. The patio and lower level fire pit directly on the lake were very enjoyable. Cons: The cottage is not really functional if you're staying for more than a night or two. The kitchen has no dishwasher (even though the welcome book from management mentions one) and very few dishes are provided so you'll do dishes after every single meal. If you plan to cook several meals there, you may want to bring your own dishes. The dishes, utensils, pots, and pans are very old and need to be replaced - and there just needs to be more of them! The bathroom was pretty disgusting. It was not even close to being cleaned and when we called the management company they asked us to take photos to prove that the shower curtain was covered in mold and someone had left hair in the drain and all over the floor; they made excuses instead of apologizing. We ended up going to pick up cleaning supplies and take care of it ourselves, which was not exactly fun following our 6 hour drive to the cottage. They eventually dropped off a cheap shower curtain late at night. There is no medicine cabinet or counter space in the bathroom, so you'll have to put all your stuff in the small drawers under the sink. The bedrooms do NOT have closets, FYI. Also the chest of drawers provided are either blocked by other furniture or don't open and close except by force. It's not a good used of space. Do away with extra furniture and put a wardrobe in each room; something functional for folded and hanging clothes. The mattresses are in desperate need of being replaced. The springs are poking through the sides and top and my sister and I did not get a full night of rest for the duration of the stay. I actually could not wait to sleep in ANY other bed by the time the trip was over. I'm in my 30s and went home with back pain. All in all, save some money and stay in a hotel with a comfortable bed!

my two Aunts and I had a wonderful time at Blackbird Cottage! the space was perfect for the three of us and it was an adorable little cottage. Our only comment is, the welcome package mentions a dishwasher and a washer/dryer. The cottage doesn't have either, and we spent a comical amount of time trying to find them haha!

Loved our stay
We really enjoyed our stay at this cottage. Everything was clean and convenient. We loved the different layers of decks and used each one of them at some point in our stay. The cottage is decorated nicely and had everything we needed, including plenty of towels and washcloths, paper products, and cleaning supplies. Joleen was amazing to work with, promptly answering questions, and working with us since our first reservation had to be postponed in April because of the covid restrictions. The property had a great fire pit and the washer and dryer was an added bonus. We would definitely stay at this property again and any properties that are managed by Joleen and Myron Glick and Linger Hospitality. They definitely made our stay a great one.
