"This is a beautiful onsen with a friendly hard working staff. My only complaint is that there are no options for breakfast. We have stayed at several onsen in the past that offer traditional Japanese breakfast or western breakfast. I’m kind of picky about seafood, and I don’t like it for breakfast. My breakfast was mainly hoke, a whole (head to tail) grilled fish. "

"I had an amazing stay at Kanemidori. The ryokan is centrally located and the building and rooms are in great condition. The service was amazing from check-in and even after checking out-- the ryokan will offer to hold your luggage after checking out if you wanted to do more sightseeing before leaving town. "The walk to the hotel from the Kusatsu bus station is not a mere 8-10mins or so, esp with luggage in tow and that it’s a bit steep to get to this hotel. Definitely not for older folks!! Didnt like that we also couldnt prearrange for taxi service ahead of time on our way back to Tokyo as we did not want to catch the bus again. One staff seemed a bit uncertain and hesitant about it, so left a bit disappointed. Food was wonderful though, for both breakfast and dinner. The use the local ingredients...

"I want to start off by saying I had a nice visit, I did the half board option and the food was plentiful and very tasty. Lots of variety, the sushi was not good and their take on Western food isn't great but the Japanese food is awesome. 2 different Onsen areas that alternate gender daily so you can try both. The hotel is old, let's just prepare you for this, really old. It could do with a massive makeover but I doubt it will happen as they are very busy due to the amazing location. If you are...
