*Please expect some construction noise during weekdays 7am-3pm from the neighbouring property. We apologise for the inconvenience.* Good things come in small packages at Villa Magdalena, a studio set within a larger period property in a superb central St Kilda location, within a secure and tranquil setting.
Stay, play or go to the bay, this tiny dame packs a punch!
The space
Recently renovated, the villa offers double gated access to off-street parking for a car and private courtyard leading onto the studio entrance. The small studio ticks all the boxes, ensuite with shower, mini bar area with fridge, sink, microwave, toaster, kettle and coffee machine (we use Melbourne roasted pods). Other amenities include small desk and pull-out wardrobe for luggage and hanging space, hairdryer, clothes steamer, and shampoo and conditioner. Modern conveniences include smart lock door entry, Samsung The Frame TV with access to streaming channels like Netflix and Disney, wifi, a/c split system, fan and dual skylights with retractable blinds. A pair of charming French doors lead onto the courtyard complete with outdoor bistro seating and convenient plug for those working outdoors.
Located in the heart of the action, the studio is tucked away in a quiet residential street half a block from Acland Street and Luna Park with the beach just beyond. Villa Magdalena gives you all the serenity of a perfect getaway with all the convenience of bars, shops, restaurants and the beach within just a few minutes' walk. There’s really no better location!
The villa is accessed via a driveway shared with the main property (occupied by us), which leads onto a private drive accessed via a roller door with parking, a courtyard and villa entry. Facilities other than driveway are not shared with the main residence.
Other things to note
Couples, please note the room only accommodates a double bed. Private car parking access is narrow and suitable for a small to average vehicle (height limit if 2.1 metres). Other off-street parking is available on the main driveway for larger cars, and free parking is available on-street (restricted to 2hrs, and unrestricted between midnight to 8am). Strictly no pets, parties or additional overnight guests, and we ask that you keep noise to a minimum after 10pm.
Getting around
The local no.96 tram is your best friend in St Kilda, connecting St Kilda (Acland Street in front of McDonald’s) to Fitzroy St, Melbourne Sports and Aquatics Centre, South Melbourne Market, Crown Casino, city, Fitzroy and Brunswick. A Myki travel card can be purchased at Priceline on Acland Street.
The no.16 is also available on the same route with a more direct access to the top end of the city (Federation Square to Parliament) via St Kilda Road. There are plenty of other tram options on St Kilda Road and the nearest rail station is Balaclava, a 15-minute walk.
Take me to coffee: Great coffee can be found at the Galleon on Carlisle Street (4-minute walk: left from house, left onto Acland Street, left again at the traffic lights, and it’s on the right) and Ground Yourself (left on Acland St, continue to the end).
Feed me: All dietary requirements are catered for on Acland Street (left out of the house, left at the first street, and continue along). Flour Child (upstairs) offers vegan and vegetarian pizzas. A favourite on Carlisle St next to Galleon is Radio Mexico, transporting you to a warm Mexican courtyard experience. For a hearty meal we recommend Abbey Road on Acland St, and for Italian there is Cicciolina’s and Rococco’s.
Wine and dine me: There are some truly exceptional restaurants in St Kilda, note that some require bookings. Donovan’s, a local institution, is located on the beachfront, as with the Stokehouse. For exceptional seafood, try Claypots Seafood Bar at the end of Acland St, then turning right.
Living it up: Take a short stroll to the famous Esplanade Hotel, beachside bars like Baxters, West Bathers Pavilion or Pontoon. Try some live music at Dogs Bar (corner of Clyde and Acland streets), Sirabaya Johnny’s, Lost, the Espy Hotel, Baxters, Vineyard and Loud Mouth.
Please tell us a bit about yourself, the reason for your visit and whether you will need access to the car space. We kindly ask guests to provide a copy of your drivers licence or passport on booking. While it may be tricky for us to accommodate any changes to check-in/out times, we will certainly do our best!
