Sun-worshippers from the world over flock to this glorious beach to rest their bones on the warm, soft sand as enthusiastic local vendors drift up and down ready to haggle with interested buyers. The hum of music and chatter from local bars and restaurants floats down to the beach, while the sounds of jet skis and water scooters splashing about echo on the shoreline.
Located along the north-west coast of Pattaya, this 4-kilometre crescent-shaped bay has been a vibrant hub of tourist activity since the swinging sixties. Many surrounding beaches have tried to emulate Pattaya beach and have succeeded to some extent. However, this palm-fringed stretch has managed to retain its title as the number-one hot spot for tourists.
Try your hand at parasailing and enjoy a bird’s eye view of the ocean as you soar through the air, hold on tight as you cut through the water on an exhilarating banana boat ride, or take a day trip out to the nearby coral island of Kho Larn and delve into the sea for a sneak peak at its colourful, exotic inhabitants. If you’ve had enough excitement for one day, sit back and relax under the shade of a palm tree with a coconut cocktail in hand as you soak up the evening sun.
Shopaholics should make a beeline for the exclusive boutiques on Beach Road and delight in the array of eclectic fashion and jewellery on display. Recharge the batteries with a drink and snack in one of the many bars and restaurants that line the bay. Come nightfall, make your way towards the bright lights of central and southern Pattaya and indulge in some delicious local cuisine. You’ll also find some of the more racy nightclubs and bars that live up to Pattaya’s reputation in this area. However, you can always head back towards the more laid-back northern end of the beach if this is not really your scene.
Pattaya Beach is a clean and safe resort for swimming. Be warned that it can become quite crowded on weekends, but you can always pack up your deckchair and head for one of the quieter beaches just down the road.
