"Wanosato was exactly what I hoped for in a ryokan. The buildings are beautiful, and the riverside setting in the forest was a dream. It felt hugely private and was so relaxing. Staff were lovely and the level of service was fantastic. The kaiseki dinner blew us away - the food was all delicious and the level of care in making it was amazing. I could not recommend this place enough, and am only sad that I could not stay longer! "

"The owners of the ryokan were very accommodating, kind & helpful. The room is big & adequate. Excellent breakfast. The only minus is that there is limited transpo to the inn. And there are no stores or restaurants near the inn. So you need to eat dinner in another village or bring food home."

"First time at a ryokan, so I had no specific expectations. Traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast were excellent. Close to bus stop that’s only about 10 minutes from the train and bus stations. Shuttle service is also available. 10-15 walk from the Hida No Sato open-air museum, although it’s a fairly steep uphill walk."

"Fantastic view from the 6th floor balcony, a short walk from the train station and right in the heart of the city on the highstreet. Not many facilities in the hotel, a bar andbistro in the lobby and a sauna that requires a reservation, all bathing is done privately in your room. City views surrounded by mountains on all sides made the balcony our highlight, a great place to take in the fresh mountain air and relax. The Tatami room was a close second with 4 bean bags and a table to sit...
