Located in Arlington, 24 kilometres west of Dallas, Six Flags Over Texas is one of the most popular theme parks in the state of Texas. With over 50 exciting rides and amusements catering for visitors of all ages, as well themed sections with eateries to suit all palates, it’s easy to see why Six Flags Over Texas is the perfect family holiday stop-off.
Looney Tunes USA is ideal for the little ones, with gentle rides such as Sylvester & Tweety’s State Fair-Is Wheel and Bugs Bunny Spirit of St. Louis. Step back in time with a stroll through oil-drilling Boomtown or wander through Goodtimes Square – a feel-good 1950s retrospective that does exactly what it says on the tin.
Thrill-seeking teens will not be disappointed with the calibre of eye-popping rides on offer in the various sections of the park. The Acme Rock-N-Rocket in USA, and Dive Bomber Alley and Superman Tower of Power in the Tower section are all adrenaline-pumping, high-intensity thrill rides that should scare their socks off.
If the kids are flagging, grab a bite to eat in one of the park's eateries. Ice-cream, snacks and cold drinks can all be bought from the many snack carts and vending machines dotted around the park or, if you require a little more sustenance, there are numerous dining options available in each themed section.
With an annual calendar of events that is choc-full of interesting performances, it's always a good time to visit the park. Held every April, the Festival Latino is definitely not to be missed. This colourful outdoor event celebrates the cream of Latino heritage and features authentic dancers and musicians as well as delectable Latino cuisine. Another event to note in your calendar is the increasingly popular Fright Fest. Held every weekend in October, this family-friendly Halloween festival boasts a scary but fun itinerary filled with haunted houses and zombies on the loose. In December, Six Flags Over Texas is transformed into a magical winter wonderland with thousands of fairy lights and a giant Christmas tree – the perfect way to get into the festive spirit!
One quick word of advice: significant savings can be made by purchasing tickets and seasonal passes online. A priceless advantage is that this means not having to queue for hours at the ticket booths, leaving you with more time to enjoy the attractions.
