The Super Museum in Metropolis is a fitting tribute to one of America’s favorite superheroes, Superman. Check out a vast collection of over 20,000 items relating to the Superman comic books, films and television series. You can inspect original costumes, movie props and artwork from the franchise, spanning from the first DC Comics in the 1930s to the latest films. You won’t be able to miss the Super Museum building. The heritage red-brick structure is adorned with red, yellow and blue highlights and a range of Superman pictures. Look up to see a statue of the superhero leaping from the side of the building in his signature flying pose.
Enter the gallery and begin your exploration of the detailed exhibits. You’ll be awed by the vast collections of comic books, artworks and movie posters. See one of the only original George Reeves Superman costumes on display, as well as a pair of spectacles that Superman’s alter ego, Clark Kent, would wear as a disguise. See a display of wigs with Superman’s distinctive dark curls. There is a range of collectible memorabilia on display, including a Superman-themed record player.
One of the museum’s most significant displays is its collection of Superman toys. Check out vintage figurines and modern gadgets. Don’t miss the gallery of Supergirl items, which showcases the costumes and comic books of the fearless DC Comics character.
The Super Museum has a large gift shop, which stocks a wide range of collectible Superman memorabilia. The museum is the epicenter of the fun-filled Superman Celebration, which brings Superman fans from around the world to the superhero’s fictional hometown each June.
The museum is open daily and has extended opening hours during summer. It is closed on Christmas Day. There is a small admission fee to visit the museum, but it is free for children under 5 years of age.
