"This hotel is well-run, if a bit sterile. The onsens -- one large and older with exquisite outdoor rock pools; the other brand new -- make this hotel special and are the best reason to stay here. The building is a bit old and tired except for a new wing. And the breakfast is pricey for what is offered. I also found the pillows very uncomfortable: too big and too hard. But for a short stay, the hotel did not disappoint."

"We loved our stay here. It’s a traditional ryokan that feels straight out of the 70s with gorgeous furniture and rotary phones. The rooms are a good size with comfy mattresses. The location is good, only a short distance from the train station. The onsens are great and often empty so you get them to yourself. The staff speak limited English but are helpful and friendly. "

The room sport traditional Japanese tatami and shoji coupled with comfortable futon beds that will lull you into some of the sweetest slumbers. However, those are not the best features of Aihoukan; Eri-san is the hallmark of service excellence.
