Visit the remarkably preserved 19th-century manor house, located in downtown Portland. Get an authentic impression of life during that era.

Step back in time at Victoria Mansion. Located in downtown Portland, the house, which is also known as the Morse-Libby House, transports its visitors to the high society of the late 1800s. From silver-plated doorknobs to carved marble mantles, every detail is a study in Victorian-era opulence.

Victoria Mansion was built as a summer residence for Ruggles Sylvester Morse, a Maine native who made his fortune as a hotelier in New Orleans. Completed in 1860, the home still contains the majority of its original decor. Discover its impressive collection of Victorian-era furniture, paintings and more.

Admire the extravagant architecture of the mansion, which is designed in the style of an Italian villa. The brownstone building sits on a tidy plot in the heart of downtown Portland.

The interiors of Victoria Mansion are even more splendid than its exteriors. Check out the stunning stained-glass skylight in the main hall, which measures 25 feet (8 meters) long. Examine the mahogany carved staircase, which is topped by two massive gasoliers. Gaze up at the ceiling, where painted Italian frescoes are framed by scrolled woodwork.

Each room in the three-story mansion, from the parlor to the bedrooms, offers an accurate representation of the privileged life of a 19th-century Maine family.

Ensure the most complete visit with a guided tour. Explore Victoria Mansion and learn about its architecture and decor. Led by a knowledgeable docent, find out about the people who lived here, listen to anecdotes from its history and glean information about recent restoration efforts. If you prefer to explore at your own pace, take a self-guided tour.

Purchase a gift or souvenir from the Carriage House Museum Shop. Browse from a selection of Victorian-inspired books, jewelry, ornaments, toys and more.

Visit Victoria Mansion daily during its regular season, which runs from May through October. Purchase tickets at the Carriage House, located next to the mansion.

See the house in all its festive glory during its special holiday season, from Thanksgiving weekend to early January.
