"Quiet neighborhood with a rainforest like atmosphere. Covered outside area to sit and enjoy coffee in the morning and libations in the evening after a grand hike around the rim. The beds were soft. The gas fireplace was awesome on a rainy evening after dinner. This place was perfect for our stay and we would love to stay here again given the opportunity. "

"It's a converted house at the end of a very long driveway. The only issue (absolutely only one) is that the walls aren't especially thick and you could hear people in the next room over. I didn't hear them often but it meant I was worried that if I watched TV I might disturb my neighbors. Otherwise it's a very clean well appointed place to stay. The room is very tastefully decorated and the furniture in good shape. The bed is very comfortable and everything is in good repair and working order as far as appliances and fittings. They also go overboard on snacks and coffee, while it's only a Keurig cup a day per person staying in the room there's also hot chocolate, yogurt and a variety of breakfast odds and ends. The grounds themselves are nice, there's shared decks and outside spaces that might have been really nice if I hadn't been out and about so much. I'd recommend this place if you plan to do a lot in Volcanoes National Park, you are just down the road, it's a great place to head back to after a long day."

"Our cottage was at the edge of the jungle, and we fell asleep both evenings to lovely birds singing throughout the night. The water dripping from wet leaves onto the rooftop was also soothing."

"First, this property is cool if you know what you are getting into. This is way off the off the grid living. You are staying on a lava field in a shipping container. That is the cool part. It is remote, and just wow for sunset and sunrise. The host, Ron, was nice and communicated well. The location on VRBO makes it appear on Chain of Craters road just near the famed sea arch in Volcanoes National park - a big reason we picked it. However just a bit east of there the road has been closed there for decades from a lava flow, and the property is on the other side so it actually takes about an hour to get to Volcanoes Park. Best way to pin actual location is to look up Red Lava B&B on Google maps: a different shipping container in the same field. It is isolated. Last few miles dirt road. You won't have access near by so best to stop in Pahoa to load up on a few things. Now pics may appear to be all alone ( believe some are older), but there are several neighbors...a few built right in front of your view towards the ocean. These folks are all off-griders living in very rustic conditions. The host makes several notations and instructions about where you can park, where you can walk and when you can head out in the morn (not before 830am) specifically because of "grumpy neighbor". There are two separate units here attached and one has only 1 bed room w bunks & no air. Other larger unit w/ king or queen bed. Listing pics seem to mix it all. Overall, unique exp for a night."

"The property is exactly as it is listed. It is set away from the other structures with the native forest. It is cool enough at night not to need ac. No issues with power or water. The bed was very comfy. I would stay here again."
