The Gulch

Once a railway hub, this neighbourhood is now packed with trendy gyms, quirky boutiques and live music bars and is decorated by colourful murals.

Formerly a busy railroad yard, The Gulch is today a modern and dynamic district with excellent public transportation and walking routes. Its wide sidewalks connect to upscale boutiques and bohemian bars with live music. Dine at the restaurants and enjoy Nashville favorites, including steak and whiskey, on your visit to The Gulch.

Join local and visiting fitness fanatics in Barry’s Bootcamp, CycleBar or HOTBOX Fitness. Multiple stylish restaurants and fast-food joints surround these gyms in the northern part of The Gulch.

Beside the trendy cafés and juice bars is the What Lifts You Wings Mural, featuring a pair of large white wings painted on a black brick wall. Stand between the wings for your own angelic photo opportunity. Wander through adjacent alleys to study the array of other uplifting and profound murals.

Pick up a bike at a rental station and cycle through this pleasant district. In the North Gulch area, admire the art deco elements of the imposing façade of the Frist Art Museum, which has a collection of fine arts and rotating exhibits.

In the evening, attend a live music performance at the Station Inn, a renowned bluegrass bar. Check out the entertainment schedule at Rudy’s Jazz Room and the rooftop views from Up. Encapsulating the musical culture of Nashville is Carter Vintage Guitars, known for its extensive selections of instruments.

Gaze up at the tall, modern apartment blocks dominating the skyline of The Gulch. You can also see the tops of the towers in the adjacent city center.

Find The Gulch sandwiched between Music Row and Sobro in the center of Nashville. To get here from the Tennessee State Capitol, travel by bus or walk south for about 25 minutes. Explore the surroundings to see other neighborhoods such as Rolling Mill Hill, Rutledge Mill and Edgehill.

The Gulch is a regenerated former rail hub that now speaks to the city’s musical pulse.

"It was close to where I needed to go and was easy to get to. The room was clean which was great. The tv was grainy but I wasn’t in Nashville to watch tv. I was surprised that they charge you $10 a night for parking. I’m not sure whether it wasn’t listed or I missed that part when booking."
