"This hotel goes to great lengths to be environmentally friendly. The pool area is beautiful. The pictures in the room are nice. There’s two different areas to play games, and they have board games that you can borrow. They also have a borrowing library. They have a fan in each room. That’s really nice at night. "It was quiet the only noise at night was waves banging against the shore or the light rain. I did late night walking and no one bothered me. Downtown Hilo takes me 30 minutes to get there on foot- I walk fast. There’s a bus but it didn’t run often. Right now the bus fare is free . All that is going to change come 2025. So be aware. "

"This was booked last minute due to a last minute cancellation for another property. Beautiful property especially for the earthy type of individual. It was perfect for my needs however I don’t see people staying here that require more of an upscale type of setting. "First, this property is cool if you know what you are getting into. This is way off the off the grid living. You are staying on a lava field in a shipping container. That is the cool part. It is remote, and just wow for sunset and sunrise. The host, Ron, was nice and communicated well. The location on VRBO makes it appear on Chain of Craters road just near the famed sea arch in Volcanoes National park - a big reason we picked it. However just a bit east of there the road has been closed...

"What a beautiful slice of paradise—a little sweet cottage with everything we needed —off the grid (but still close enough to groceries and great restaurants) with excellent hikes and beaches nearby.
