Hidden between the popular resort areas of Playa del Carmen and Tulum, Xpu-ha Beach offers a spot for a quieter and less crowded getaway. White sand graces the shore, contrasting with the blue-green line of warm, clear water. Enjoy seafood and typical Mexican cuisine in the elegant restaurants backing onto the beach.
Listen to the soothing sound of the waves and enjoy the spaciousness on this little-known strand. It usually remains fairly quiet, even during peak seasons.
Rent a kayak to take out on the waves and get a massage back on the sand to soothe aching muscles. Set up your family around the deck chairs of La Playa Xpu-Ha Beach Club, where you can get snacks and drinks.
Swim in the transparent, refreshing water and bring your snorkeling gear to see the wealth of aquatic life around you. You can also rent goggles and snorkels here.
Brave yourself for more intense watersports activities, such as parasailing and Jet Skiing or take kite surfing lessons. Explore the region to visit some of the cenotes, which are stunning underground water holes in limestone caves.
Stay at one of the nearby hotels or camp in a luxury tent. Note that the name of the strand is pronounced as “Shpoo-Ha.” The beach is private and has an entrance fee that counts toward your purchases in the restaurant. Leave any valuables and belongings in the lockers when you swim.
