Greenwich Market Tours and Activities

Greenwich Market showing markets and signage as well as a small group of people

From antiques, arts and crafts sellers to a superb food court and live music, this market buzzes with energy 7 days a week.

Peruse hundreds of shops and food stands set around the cobblestone lanes of Greenwich Market. Sample food from around the world and enjoy a varied program of events. Greenwich Market is a covered market that started life in 1700, when the Commissioners of Greenwich Hospital were awarded a royal market charter. Today it continues to be an integral part of life in the ancient village of Greenwich and offers charitable aid to Royal Navy and Royal Marines retirees.

Every day of the week presents an exciting shopping experience at the market and the chance to chat with friendly vendors. From Friday to Monday and on Wednesdays is the Arts and Crafts Market. On Tuesday, Thursday and Friday the Antiques and Collectables Market also takes place. Relish in the chance to purchase one-of-a-kind artwork, handcrafted fashion items and jewelry. Browse for antique movie posters, porcelain and silverware.

The food court welcomes talented chefs that serve cuisine from all corners of the globe. Feast on Ethiopian, Indian and Thai curries, burgers served in ramen buns, fresh oysters and vegan pizzas. Sweet-toothed visitors will love trying artisanal chocolates, Brazilian-style churros and macarons. Pick up hot sauces, jams and organic fruits and vegetables to take home.

Regular events and participation activities, such as children’s yoga and face-painting workshops, make this a fun place for all the family. During Park It in the Market, classic cars and motorbikes line up in the center of the market. Choirs, jazz bands and students from the Trinity College of Music accompany market-goers with music performances.

The market is open daily and it’s free to enter. Get here by taking a train to the Cutty Sark station and then walk from there. You can also catch a passenger ferry to nearby Greenwich Pier.

Greenwich Market is one of several attractions and landmarks that make up the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site. Combine your time at the market with a visit to the Cutty Sark museum ship, Royal Observatory and St. Alfege Church.
