A whole house rental located in an upscale hamlet within driving or transit distance of San Francisco, this house is ideal for guests desiring a safer, more spacious alternative to staying overnight in the city. Perched on nearly a quarter-acre of a tree-lined street, we have welcomed guests from around the world and locals visiting family or having their nearby homes built, renovated or repaired. Step inside a turn-key ready home-away-from-home, fully remodeled in recent years. Equipped as a turn-key house with the belief that in today's digital era, life and work naturally follow us anywhere we go, this property features a respectable office setup with at least one Aeron Chair alongside a zen setting to relax and unwind. From an expansive backyard to an attentive host, fine attention is paid to detail. Guests of all backgrounds are genuinely welcome, as are work groups. As a universally welcoming host to all, The Zen House (my house) reflects my personal ethos of welcoming guests of all backgrounds in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory, welcoming and happy environment. As a professional Property Manager for a decade and the owner of The Zen House going for nearly 40 years, I maintain The Zeen House in immaculate condition. However, should anything arise from a "concierge" question to an issue with your stay,, I am reachable, even at late hours (24/7) to ensure every effort is made for you to have a safe, seamless and memorable experience before your departure.
One unique aspect of staying in my home is there is no cleaning fee. Since the amazing guests I have hosted frequently leave the home tidy and fairly clean on their own, even though there is NO CLEANING REQUIREMENT (nor any expectation and same with laundry), I do not apply this fee unless there are pets.. For as long as this continues, we will not charge any cleaning fee for your stay.
*Special Notes:
(1) We are pleased to have Ethernet at 3 access points in the home. It was installed for a special guest as their WFH (Work-from-Home) required Ethernet for a higher-level of security than traditional wifi. **However, Ethernet is *not* listed as an offered amenity. This is because the host has not personally used it. to confirm it works, so you are welcome to use the Ethernet, but the host does not make ANY promises or warranty as to whether or not this functions. Should this be a key issue in your reservation, please advise, so this option can be investigated furthe to ensure a seamless stay.
(2) Animals & Pets are considered on a case-by-case basis AFTER answering a list of questions.. When pets are allowed, this is **BEFORE** booking *ONLY*. YOU CANNOT ADD ANY PET *AFTER* BOOKING. INSTANT BOOKING WITH PETS ARE NOT VALID AND MAY BE SUBJECT TO CANCELLATION AT THE HOSTS SOLE DISCRETION AND WITHOUT PENALTY TO HOST. THERE ARE INCREASING BREED LIMITATINGS, ESPECIALLY PERTAINING TO DOG WHO ARE A "MIX" or "MIXED" breeds. IT IS VITAL THAT YOU PROMPTLY ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS FULLY SO THAT WE CONSULT WITH OUR INSURANCE REPRESENTATIVE TO CONFIRM WE CAN HOST YOUR FOUR-LEGGED FRIEND. Please understand, we did not enact the insurance carrier's rules, which can get very involved. We do our best to host all guests, including animals, despite ever-changing insurance rules on pets. To date we have successfully hosted several dogs and 3 cats.
**SPECIAL PET HOUSE RULE: Dogs and pets must be contained indoors (not outside) for about 1-1/4 days per week to accommodate the gardener (1/4 day) and the on-property garbage service (up to one day a week, lately a 1/4 to 1/2 day a week, but no advance guarantee. . We coordinate this the best with you to minimize your pet's time out of our expansive yard.
(3) Contact host for pricing modifications on stays > 45 consecutive nights. Discounts under that length of stay have already been factored into our pricing months in advance (and some pricing > 45 days has already been factored in to our pricing).

Guests have stayed with for a variety of purposes:
- Remodels to guests' homes (or portions of projects).
- Work Groups (has ranged from underground piping tradespersons to a group of out-of-town trial attorneys with a local jury trial).
- Divorce co-parenting compliance. This is often when a parent lives out of state and needs a fun, executive-family house to host their children. (We have also hosted marital seperations, one crediting their review left on another platform to their successful spousal reunification following a 3 month respite at The Zen House).
- Insurance-covered losses in their own homes (eg, water, fire) under the "ALE" (Additional Living Expense) coverage on their homeowner's policy or labeled "LOU" (Loss of Use) with other carriers. Insurance usually tries to send the uninformed policyholder to a 3rd party "Housing Intermediary Company" (placement firm) which simply sends you a link to an app to chose from a hotel in the area. That really does not work well for the guests that we have hosted. The sole reason they got to stay at the Zen House is they either assertively advocated for themselves with the Claims Representative, the Property Claims Manager/Claims Examiner *and* also with the carrier's contracted "intermediary housing providers" (the company that sends you the hotel booking app valid for hotels they have pre-negotiated discounts with). Many carriers no longer pay for *ANY* bookings. Our last couple of insurance-related guests found their hotel rooms or undersized suites incompatible for their families needs and paid out-of-pocket. To our knowledge, all were ultimately reimbursed in full after booking, paying direct and holding the insurance carrier to their contractual obligations.
- Vacationers to the SF Bay Area looking for a safer alternative to staying in the SF/Oakland areas and want more than a box-sized hotel room.
- Guests here to visit family, whether for the weekend, a holiday or a little bit longer.
- Graduations.
- Work Groups, including Boeing, construction crews and an out-of-area law firm with a local jury trial.
- We warmly welcome guests from all backgrounds.
- This income-generating residence offers the opportunity for interested, prospective to book a stay in the house before they buy. House w tentatively slates to be sold by end of Summer 2025.
* We are unable to host ANY person of *any* age (INCLUDING MINORS) who has stayed at The Zen House within the prior THIRTY (30) DAYS. Any such reservation is subject to being null and voided immediately, without *ANY* refund and must pay reimbursement to the host for and fees or costs incurred to the Host by the Platform, to include platform-imposed charges. (This is entirely separate from requesting to extend a reservation prior to check out. This applies to return visits within a thirty (30) day period of last checking out).
