"Comfortable, firm beds and pillows. Good breakfast buffet with both western and Japanese options. There are free snacks and coffee in the lounge area, and you have an option to get a light early afternoon meal as well. Hotel is next to a grocery store, where we easily picked up anything else we needed. Staff are courteous and very helpful. Our 8-year-old loved the hotel. We would stay there again."

"Great hotel. Clean, modern and right in the middle of downtown. Short walk to shopping, public transportation, restaurants, etc. The immediate area around the hotel can be a little touristy and obnoxious, but it didn't diminish our time there. Note: don't pay for the breakfast in advance, there are many restaurants & coffee shops in the neighborhood, and you are sure to find something you like very quickly. Recommended!"

"The rooms are large for Japanese hotels. When I requested a quiet room, it was changed immediately. Loved the bar for informal dinners. Close to bus and subway. Good shopping within easy walk. Friendly staff. Excellent French bakery next door."

"Overall excellent property. Nice lobby. Appears they change the art installations frequently . Few quirks they take away the water from the lobby in the evenings. Also the bakery opens at 8 am. Would be ideal if opened earlier. Excellent rooftop. "

"The rooms are spacious unlike the hotel I stayed at in Tokyo. The Staff are very adorable and friendly and polite and hospitable honestly it’s the full package. The services here are superb and the atmosphere is great. There’s tons of amenities unlike the hotel I stayed at in tokyo like the gym, spa, sauna, business room, pool etc."

"Spacious room for 3. Near to Nishiki market and subway station but 40mins walk to Kyoto station. Bus stop across the road to bring you to Kiyomizu Temple"

"Great hotel in the heart of Gion. Walkable to just about everything, or a quick walk to a train to everything else. Hotel was clean, staff was kind, amenities available as needed. Only thing to note is that the laundry machines on the 6th floor have a hard time drying well, so we left with some damp luggage. Not a huge deal but worth a call out if you need to do laundry on your trip."

"Loved my stay at this hotel. It was the perfect place to come back to after a day out. And even if you decide to stay indoors, the rooms are spacious, comfortable, and relaxing (not to mention the spa!). The staff were attentive, and the hotel was very clean and situated in a convenient location. I would stay here again."

Epitome of relaxation. The perfect ryokan

"We stayed for just one night to expierence the best this ryokan had to offer and man did it exceed all our expectations. To truly know, book one of their 4 suites. The #500 rooms. Massive rooms with authentic tatami mats, personal and private onsen that is open air facing the beautiful lake, out of this world seasonal dinner/breakfast course. The area is secluded enough to be quiet but not far from the local town. Cute and quaint souvenir shop. Oh and the bidet toilet is the best we've ever seen. Lastly, the staff is extremely accommodating, friendly, and helpful. They know english very well too. They have a shuttle that does pick up and drop off from Ogotoonsen Station so skip the taxi and call the resort when you get there. If you have cell service there is a free cell phone that you can use to call the resort. Theres also a guide of numbers for all the resorts in the area. To wrap up, book a night at this ryokan you will not regret treating yourself to a time of lavish luxury. "

"Home style Japanese dinner and breakfast was delicious. The premise and surroundings were very quiet—a nice getaway from the bustling city. A home-like coziness. Family staff were most cordial and accommodating. Had fun riding the complementary bicycles. Only visited one temple site 15 minutes walk away, but what a gem! Ohara Sanzenin is a beauty—and we saw it at the tail end of Winter when one wouldn’t expect much to see. The temple and garden capture much of the essence that is Kyoto. Was very impressive. Surely, will plan a stay at Ryoso Chatani Ryokan in the future. "
