"Beautiful stay in a beautiful ryokan with traditional but comfortable decor and furnishings. The staff, the service, the food, the onsen were all superb and we especially loved our spacious suite with amazing views of the countryside!"

"Ten-Yu was a surprise (in a good way). I had not expected much but discovered that it has a lot of little things that make the experience special. Each unit is large and has yukata's for adults and children (essentially a more casual version of a kimono) that you can wear throughout your stay at the property - while eating at the restaurants too! Nearly everyone wore them and it gave you a more "home-like" sense to the property. They also had live music concerts in the lobby (flute/saxophone) where a small group of about 20-25 guests would congregate to listen to the music. The property has free cold tea and snacks in the lobby. They also had free champagne/drinks briefly during happy hour. The kids loved the free ice cream vending machine. They had buffet breakfast included in our stay. We also learned an important lesson about dinner in Hakone area. Make your reservations before you arrive! Most people eat dinner at the property because a lot of restaurants outside are closed for dinner or have long waits. Then go to the onsen (hotspring at the property) either before or after dinner. You'll feel great. For those who don't want to get naked, you can go to Yunnesun which is next door to the property which is a fun hotspring waterpark. The kids loved it, especially the fish pedicure. It is connected via an indoor walkway. The service overall was very good - the front lobby staff was excellent although restaurant staff could be better at following up on my requests."

"Hakone is beautiful and so is this hotel. We loved the location as it was a 5 min walk from the train station, 7 min walk from the convenience store, and surrounded by gorgeous scenery. The staff was pleasant and no issues checking in, but there was one night when a group of older folks from the UK decided to turn the quiet seating area into a loud bar, drinking and being obnoxiously loud, and the staff were too shy to say anything. The rest of the guests were clearly irritated and displeased and most hot up and left. Other than this, the food was decent (we had the buffet breakfast and dinner included in our stay), the rooms were simple, but clean and spacious with a lovely mountain view, and the outdoor foot bath and private onsen were just great! I would return. Check out the pizza spot which is in walking distance, it was awesome. "

"This hotel was the highlight of the 4 hotels that we stayed in during our two week visit. We had a very large room (double twin) that allowed us to open up our suitcases. Room was clean, smelled fresh, had a beautiful view of the stream and maple trees changing colors. They provided yukatas and slippers to wear around the property, which most other people wore to breakfast and dinner. The property was recently renovated a few years ago and is very nice. The breakfast and dinner buffet was insane. I think we got our monies worth on just the sushi, waygu beef and alcohol (all you can eat and drink!) There is something for everyone in you party. The room was quiet until someone would be talking (usually the rude ones from vachina) while walking the hallway. We booked a private onsen one night and that was magical for our tired bodies. The only way to get around the area is by bus, unless you have a car or package tour. The bus was very crowded (PACKED!) round 10:00 when we went to Lake Ashi/Odawara. It was very cold and rainy (mid November) so pack a heavy jacket. We did laundry again at this hotel (do 'smaller than what you think' loads or it won't dry). There is a indoor pool across the street as well as a Family Mart. Not much else in the area. I would definitely recommend this property."

"It's super close to the line to Hakone Ropeway! Also a great place. We went on a weekend and it wasn't really that packed at all. The onsens were super clean, safe, and relaxing. Not much chit-chatting like the ones in the US which I LOVED. It was perfect. We got a room with a private onsen and it was cute - it was just like a wooden box hahaha but it was a vibe and really nice. We also got the food included and that was great - real Japanese style and delicious. All of the people that worked there were really helpful too. "
