This year the woman at the desk tried the whole "local police require us to photocopy the ID of all foreign guests" ruse which is not how the Minpaku and Hotel law works in Japan. I showed them the law which I have bookmarked on my phone and they relented. However, because of this embarrassing episode I will not be staying here again. The room itself was fine, but I was right next to the elevator and the walls at this hotel...
